The City of Tallahassee was established on November 8,1824. Tallahassee and Leon County are beautifully nestled in the rolling countryside of the Big Bend area of Northern Florida. Recently named an "All-America City" and noted by Money Magazine as one of the Southeast's three top medium sized cities in which to live, Tallahassee is flourishing. Located in the heart of Florida's Panhandle, Tallahassee is "The Other Florida" in attitude, topography, climate and lifestyle. Tallahassee offers an exciting blend of cultures, recreational pursuits and business opportunities with quick access to the pristine Gulf shores and the forests of Georgia. Tallahassee is home to world class institutions Florida A&M and Florida State University, as well as some of Florida's best school systems. Rich in cultural diversity, Tallahassee boasts more than 31 community established performing arts groups, 28 museums and art galleries, 350 restaurants and a local circus. An undisturbed natural environment allows Tallahassee residents to enjoy the many recreational resources in the area. The popular Tallahassee/St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail is a 16-mile long trail, which was once the oldest operating railroad in Florida. Stretching from Tallahassee to the Gulf of Mexico, the trail offers bicyclists, skaters, hikers, joggers and equestrians scenic beauty at its best. Many other parks in the Tallahassee area offer hundreds of miles of off-road bike and scenic trails and other recreational outlets for those who love the outdoors. These are just some of the reasons so many people are saying "YES" to Tallahassee. Tallahassee can be divided into about four modes of living. The area enjoys a large student population, with the majority of them living in the Northwest and Southwest areas of town. There are the urban dwellers, who for the most part live in-town and out Apalachee Parkway near Blairstone and Inside Capital Circle--or in one of a few new condominiums being built in Tallahassee. Then there are the suburban neighborhoods like SouthWood, Killearn, Ox Bottom, Summerbrooke and Golden Eagle to the Northeast where homes sprawl neighborhoods on zero lot lines or on lots up to about an acre. These types of homes range from around $100 to as much as $225 per square foot today. Exurban, defined as the area just outside the urban service area or urban fringe and rural-- Generally, these homes are on small acreage up to about 15 acres, with large homes. Exurban estates are in places you'll find canopy roads, horses and classic southern red hills and live oak vistas. Prices out there range over $180-300+ per square foot with homes valued well in excess of $1 Million. There is something for everyone in Tallahassee. For the latest market conditions see my blog!
